The project aims to recover one of the forgotten intangible heritage values of cathedrals, sound, and contributing it become a factor of cultural revitalization, providing institutions a tool able to predict and perceive the acoustic result of an architectural intervention in a heritage building. It thus faces one of the reasons for the development of the National Plan for Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
With these premises, the MAIN GOAL of the project is: "to know, recover, preserve, value and disseminate the intangible inheritaged value of the sound of cathedrals in cultural or liturgical ephemeral configurations, as well as to assess the acoustic field perceived in these spaces."
The approach is clearly innovative and incorporates the values of contemporaneity through the application of new technologies. The main object of this study is the sound of the cathedral, not only in the present, but also in the past, by recreating the sound of past ages corresponding to configurations and / or significant events associated with liturgical, social or cultural ephemeral events, and in the future, with intervention projects in cathedrals using ephemeral architecture, meaning that the sound is part of the intangible heritage of cathedrals.
The project is planned as a continuation of the project, "Acoustics of Cathedrals: a scientific contribution to the recovery of Cultural Heritage" (BIA2010 - 20523 ), funded in 2010 by the National Plan of R + D + i of the Ministry of Science and Innovation. The core of the team is almost the same with variations due to the experience, and with the aim of adapting it to the new approach and objectives of this proposal.
